Joshua Altback has 17 years of experience with wedding hair and is frequently flown around the world to create stunning looks for some of Britain's most stylish brides.

An authority on bridal hair, Josh, who has won the prestigious Creative Visionary Award twice, even teaches fellow stylists how to do bridal hair either on location or at his exclusive St John's Wood salon.

BE A BRIDE WITH A DIFFERENCE - ACCESSORISE!

What sets Josh apart from the bridal hair crowd is his love of creating new, fresh looks which can be adapted to suit each client's tastes. He is highly skilled at working with both long and shorter hair and often adds hair pieces for brides who want extra volume or length. For those who want a beautifully distinct look he recommends jazzing up the hair with vintage accessories and little jewels.

Current trends are leaning towards soft, loose waves and elegant up-do's but there is always room to be slightly more adventurous,' says Josh, 'You can always add interest and definition to any style with antique slides, clips, porcelain flowers, diamante slides, Swarovski crystals and fresh water pearls. 'They work brilliantly with long or short hair and add texture and detail. Bling-bling tiaras are in now which I love!

'Fishtail plaits are also hugely popular,' says Josh, 'For my gorgeous client Katie I created a stunning look that involved weaving fishtail plaits either side of her head all the way down her back and tying them in the middle with a porcelain flower at the bottom. The style beautifully complemented her Elizabeth Emmanuel dress for her wedding at The Dorchester Hotel.

BEEHIVE BRIDES

For a really contemporary look Josh recommends trying a 'mini-beehive' style and adding a vintage, custom-made tiara.

'Styles which involve generous backcombing on top are great for supporting big tiaras,' he says, 'If you want to soften the look you can always wear some of the hair down at the sides and back and this means you get to show off an elegant neck too.'

We hold wedding hair trial sessions in the salon, which last for an hour and a half. This is where you can come and share your vision with Josh, and he will have you ready and feeling gorgeous for the big day.

Go to a hairdresser who specialises in bridal hair or putting hair up.
Look through bridal magazines for current trends and accessories.

Try different styles.

Take photographs so that you can remember.
Have hair and make-up trial at the same time if possible.
If your hair is coloured, make sure it is done 1 to 2 weeks before the big day.
Have your hair cut/trimmed 1 or 2 weeks before the wedding.
On the day make sure your hairdresser does your hair first. If your hair is fine, then specialized hand made light-weight hair pieces can be made to give it more texture and/or length.
Remember word of mouth is always good too.
